Overview
Witness Protocol is a public evidence log for on-chain activity. People attach a transaction to a short, factual note. Others corroborate. The wallet can answer. The protocol never reaches a conclusion for you.
This documentation describes the intended design. The current site is a proof of concept, so every report, count and wallet shown is example data.
Reports
Claims with a linked transaction hash.
Corroboration
A count of reporters in agreement.
Responses
The wallet’s side, in the same timeline.
What counts as valid evidence
Evidence is a transaction that can be opened on a block explorer and read by anyone. Screenshots, rumours and off-chain claims on their own are not evidence.
- A Solana transaction signature that resolves on-chain
- A note that describes what the transaction shows
- A single, specific observation per report
- A reporter identity that stays consistent across filings
Language policy
Precision protects everyone involved. The interface only ever uses four words to describe a report's standing, and none of them is a verdict.
Good notes
- Outbound transfer of 4,200 USDC to a newly funded account.
- Approval granted to an address that later moved the full balance.
- Liquidity removed within minutes of a public announcement.
Rejected notes
- This wallet is a scammer.
- Obvious rug pull, avoid.
- The owner stole everyone’s funds.
Corroboration
Corroboration is a reporter saying: I opened the transaction and agree it is worth recording. It increments a count on the card. It never changes the label, never produces a score, and never ranks a wallet.
12 corroborations · still unverified
Wallet responses
A wallet can reply to any report with a signed message. Responses appear in the same timeline, in true chronological order, with equal visual weight to the report itself.
Signed with the wallet key and posted beside the report it answers.
Staking and slashing
In the live protocol, filing stakes 50 $WTNS. A corroborated report refunds the stake. Reports found to be in bad faith by the review queue forfeit it. Staking is not live in this proof of concept, and the contract address is not yet published (CA: Soon).
File
Stake 50 $WTNS against the report.
Corroborate
Stake is refunded as agreement builds.
Review
Bad-faith filings can be slashed.
Data and limits
Everything on this site is placeholder data created for the proof of concept. The protocol does not store personal information, does not custody funds, and cannot move assets.
